Budapest is a beautiful city with rich art, architecture and a cultural legacy that its people are very proud of. The River Danube flows right through the city, which was once two towns: the hilly Buda and the flat landed Pest.

Budapest is the capital of Hungary and the official language spoken is Hungarian. It's a historic city, which was formed about 89 AD by the Romans who founded a town here called Aquincum, the ruins of which can still be seen today.

The city is divided into 23 districts which are denoted by Roman numerals. District I is the heart of downtown Budapest and the historic centre of the city. Budapest is more commonly divided into four distinct areas: the hilly Buda area west of the Danube, the commercial area of Pest east of the Danube, the Castle District and Margitziget Island.

Budapest has in fact seven islands on the River Danube with Margitziget Island being the most popular due to its park and recreational facilities.

Regarded as ‘The Paris of the East’, Budapest is a unique and exciting destination with marvellous scenery, thermal springs and spas, museums, palaces and Roman ruins.

The city is well laid out and easy to get around. A variety of restaurants, cafes and shops, not to mention a buzzing nightlife, really make Budapest one of the most enjoyable cities in Europe.
