Getting around Budapest:

Finding your way around Budapest is relatively easy. The Danube flows through the middle of the city, with Buda on the right and Pest on the left.
Don’t drive if you can avoid it, as traffic jams are frequent and parking is a real challenge. As well as that, if you drive from Buda to Pest across the bridge, you’ll need to have some patience, as the traffic flow can sometimes be bumper to bumper.
Instead, stroll around the back streets and the historic quarter, which are best approached by foot and this is also the best way to appreciate the character of the city.
The transport system in Budapest is by far the best option for getting around. It is efficient, inexpensive and runs throughout all major tourist areas of Budapest. You can have a choice of bus, trolley, tram, metro and train. Tickets can be purchased from news stands, kiosks or at the entrance to metro stations.
The inexpensive Budapest taxis can either be hailed at the many stands throughout the city, or phoned in advance.
