Money –

  • ·The unit of currency in Hungary is the Forint . In Hungary the abbreviation for Forint is Ft.
  • ·Major credit cards (Amex, Visa, Mastercard, Cirrus) can be used in member shops.
  • ·ATM’s are dotted all over the city and accept all major credit and bank cards.
  • ·In Hungary it is customary to tip for everything, waiters, hairdressers, taxi drivers etc. unless you are really unhappy with the service.
Business Hours –
  • ·Most stores and businesses are opened from Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm and Saturday from 9am to 1pm. Some shops have late opening on Thursday and Friday nights while most are closed on a Sunday. Banks are opened from 8am to 3pm from Monday to Thursday and on Fridays from 8am to 1pm. Banks are closed on Saturdays.
Telephones –
  • ·Public phones require 10, 20, 50 or 100 Forint coins or else you can buy a pre paid calling card at news stands, supermarkets or post offices.

Visa/Passport –
  • ·You can enter Hungary as long as you have a valid passport. Check with the Hungarian Embassy in your own country about obtaining a visa.
  • When’s a good time to go-

    • Probably the best time to visit Budapest is in the Autumn, when the temperatures are moderate and it seldom rains. Although this city can be visited any time of the year, it can have extremely cold winters, warm humid summers and plenty rain in the Spring.
