(Image courtesy of: The Photo Archive of the Hungarian National Tourist Office)There are nine bridges linking Buda with Pest, but the Széchenyi Chain Bridge is the most important and most famous, as it was the first bridge built across the Danube linking the two cities in 1849. The bridge was named after one of its main supporters István Széchenyi and for a time was one of the largest bridges in the world. It has a spectacular history, as it was destroyed during WWI and was later reconstructed to the original design.
It's a great place from which to take a photo with its very special views of Buda and is beautiful during the day, but is best admired at night when it’s all lit up.
