City Park is Budapest’s largest Park and is situated in District XIV. The Vajdahunyad Castle and an artificial lake are the central pieces of the park.
The park was originally built to symbolise the Hungarian Millennium in 1896. It was designed by Budapest’s most famous architect, Ignac Alpar and was built from cardboard and wood. This castle housed a wide range of Gothic and Romanesque architectural designs. These designs symbolised the different centuries.
The park is an extremely popular area to walk around with Heroes Square being the main entrance into the park. The park is also home to many other attractions such as the Museum of Fine Arts, The Millennium Monument and The Palace of Art.
City Park Pond is an artificial lake where you can rent a boat or in the winter you can ice skate, actually this t is Europe’s largest outdoor skating rink.
If you fancy a bite to eat while in the park, the renowned Gundel Restaurant offers gorgeous food in glorious surroundings. It is one of Hungary’s most famous restaurants and their mouth watering dessert; the Gundel palacsinta is too delicious to skip.
